[link1] is a partnership that protects the estuaries from Venice to Estero Bay. This partnership gives citizens, elected officials, resource managers, and commercial and recreational resource users in the 4,700-square-mile study area a voice to address diverse resource management concerns, including fish and wildlife habitat loss, water quality and water flow. The watershed in the study area includes all or portions of Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, Polk, Hardee and DeSoto counties. [link1]’s work includes assessment and restoration of ecosystems and studies of freshwater and marine fisheries, aquatic and terrestrial wildlife, imperiled species, and red tides. The institute develops the information science required to analyze and disseminate research products and engages in outreach activities to compliment all programs. [p]n 2004, the FWC integrated parts of the Division of Wildlife, Division of Freshwater Fisheries, and the Florida Marine Research Institute to create the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI). In addition to fulfilling the functions previously provided by three groups, FWRI added focus areas in spatial analysis, biostatistics and modeling, wildlife forensics, and socioeconomic research.
[link1] After twelve years of being the primary resource for Florida’s East Coast anglers, boaters and conservationalists, Coastal Angler Magazine is now delivering it’s message Statewide through a system of regional partnerships with it’s like-minded Franchisees. In an era when the State’s marine resources and fragile ecosystems seem destined to move toward depletion and degradation, Coastal Angler Magazine and it’s Franchisees strive to educate and inform our readership on the issues and common sense imperatives of protecting and preserving Florida’s wonderful marine resources.
